These Healthy & Easy Stir Fry Recipes are perfect for busy nights when you’re craving takeout or need to clear out your vegetable crisper!
The Secret to a Great-Tasting Stir Fry
Want your stir fries to taste just like the ones at your favourite restaurant? Use a wok instead of a traditional skillet or frying pan!
There's a reason why restaurant chefs use woks to make stir fries. They retain and equally distribute heat so everything cooks quickly and evenly. You can also fit more food in them which is perfect if you're making a large batch or meal prepping! You also don't need to use as much oil when you're cooking in a wok, so your homemade stir fry will be even healthier.
Healthy Stir Fry Recipes
Stir fry recipes are a great choice when you're trying eat healthy or need a quick weeknight meal. They're super easy to make – basically all you have to do is dump a bunch of veggies and protein into a frying pan or wok and go to town!
If you want to make a stir fry, you really just have to go with whatever ingredients you're craving or look at what you have on hand. With most stir fry recipes, you can make modifications or swap in certain ingredients for others, so they're great for using up leftovers!
How to make an easy stir fry
Here's how to make stir fry:
- Choose a protein. While I've included recipes for chicken, beef, shrimp and vegetarian stir fries, you can use pretty much any protein source you'd like! Even ground turkey makes a delicious stir fry.
- Prepare your ingredients beforehand. Since a stir fry cooks so quickly, you should have all your ingredients prepped ahead of time so you can throw them in as required. You can even slice, chop, or mince your vegetables and aromatics a few days before you go to cook (like I suggest in Dinner Prep Pro) to make weeknight dinners a breeze.
- Make a stir fry sauce. This doesn't need to be complicated or expensive. A lot of great stir fry sauces are made from pantry staples. I really like using this 2-ingredient sauce—it couldn't be easier!
- Add ingredients in the correct order. To prevent any burning, it's important to add ingredients based on how long it takes for them to cook because stir fries cook on a high heat.
- Thicken your stir fry sauce. If your recipe calls for it, you can thicken your sauce by making a cornstarch slurry. Simply whisk some water with cornstarch and pour it in just as everything's finished cooking.
